Ferdinand Cohn Medal for RKI President Prof. Lothar H. Wieler

Prof. Dr. h.c. Lothar H. Wieler, President of the Robert Koch Institute and Scientific Advisor of bayresq.net, was awarded the Ferdinand Cohn Medal of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM). With this award, the professional society honored his “outstanding commitment in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic”: the board had followed with great appreciation that Prof. Wieler had tirelessly upheld and emphasized the principles of scientificity in public and political discussions throughout the entire period, according to the DGHM. The award ceremony took place on September 12, 2021, during the DGHM Annual Meeting in Berlin. At irregular intervals, the DGHM honors personalities who have rendered outstanding services to microbiology and/or hygiene with the Ferdinand Cohn Medal.
